The German Panzerkampfwagen V 'Panther', a renowned 20th-century combat vehicle, was born out of the Wehrmacht's encounter with the Soviet T-34. Urgent reports from the Eastern Front led to a decision to build a new tank, capable of destroying nearly any enemy armored vehicle. MAN completed the Pz.Kpfw. V prototype by the end of 1942, and serial production began soon after. Its first, unsuccessful combat appearance occurred in the summer of 1943 during the Battle of Kursk.
